Dental implants are a well-established and superior treatment option for replacing missing teeth. A dental implant is the closest thing available to having your own natural tooth.
Single Tooth Implants
A dental implant is often the best prosthetic option to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of two main components: 1) A bio-compatible titanium post which is placed surgically within the jaw bone, and 2) a solid porcelain crown which is cemented or screwed onto the post.
The initial surgical component is performed by the specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon located in Geelong. The surgeon will initially need to assess the dental tissues in the area to make sure that there is the right quality and quantity to receive a dental implant.
The second component which involves attaching a porcelain crown to the titanium post is performed by one of our dentists.
Implant-retained Bridges and Dentures
As well as a single tooth, implants can be used to replace multiple teeth, and even support a full denture. Again, a proper preliminary assessment is required to determine the suitable treatment options. Usually, multiple implants are placed by the oral surgeon, after which our dentist will construct a bridge or denture to secure onto the implant posts. This is a great option for those people who are unable to tolerate dentures and require a superior, fixed alternative.
